Trusted Authority Critical Elements
Alot of people ask me, “so what does it really take to become the Trusted Authority?”
The biggest mistake most people make is thinking that they have to somehow be very established, have a long track record, be the biggest supplier in the market, or have a big list of clients already.
The secret to remember is that becoming the Trusted Authority has little to do with how much you know, or how well known you are. In fact, becoming the Trusted Authority concept is specifically intended to rapidly BUILD that reputation and awareness in the market, instead of taking years of hard work to establish it.
No, becoming the Trusted Authority really comes down to 2 critical ingredients that you MUST have:
1) you have to have a Core Competence in what you do.
2) you have to be committed to serving others.
This all sounds very simple – and it is. But let’s make sure you understand these 2 simple but powerful things.
First of all, you have to have Core Competence in what you do. This means that if you’re terrible at what you do, or you bring no value to the market place, then you’ll struggle ever being established as the Trusted Authority.
But here’s the critical distinction — you do not have to be the BEST or most known in your market.
The reality is, there’s ALWAYS going to be someone that’s technically better, or more experienced, at what you do. Comparing yourself to others on those measures is a loser’s game.
The key thing to recognize is that many of the world’s top authorities are not necessarily the single best at what they do. They’re not the smartest, most knowledgeable or most educated.
Richard Branson barely made it through high school. He’s dyslexic and admits to knowing very little about financial statements. Yet, he’s the absolute authority when it comes to inspiring entrepreneurs.
Oprah was homeless, raped at 9, pregnant at 14 and never had any advantages. Yet, she rose to become the authority to millions — but never actually won a jourmalism award.
Being the Trusted Authority is not about your past – it’s about your present and future. And that gives you tremendous power when you realize that instead of worrying about others in the market, that you can simply DECIDE to become the Trusted Authority, and then apply the strategies and tools that are proven to work – and work quickly.
You have to be able to solve your market’s problem and add value, but you do NOT have to be the world’s best at it.
You don’t become the Trusted Authority by being the best .. you become the best by choosing to be the Trusted Authority.
And the second piece is that you have to be committed to serving others.
If you’re looking to ensure a failure in business, focus only on the money.
Start a business because you want to get rich. Focus on making lots of money and doing whatever you need to get rich.
That’s what most entrepreneurs do .. and that’s a core reason why most absolutely fail.
Your commitment needs to be to your target market. You have to CARE about your clients and prospects, and be genuinely committed to adding value to their life.
So .. those are the only 2 critical elements that must be true. If you can say that you meet those criteria .. congratulations!
You’re now in position to become the Trusted Authority.
